Eurasian jays are called “Garrulus glandarius” in Latin. Glandarius is the Latin word for acorn, and this is what this bird is eating right now.

Squirrels are especially striking in autumn, when the fallen leaves mirror the warm tones of their fur. Capturing a compelling photograph of them, however, is a challenge, as they vanish more quickly than almost any other animal in the park.

A dunnock always looks a bit aggressive and excited. I found this one in a park sitting right next to a red robin on a hedge. Despite their look, they seem to get along really well.

It’s often hard to spot in the wild, as it loves scurrying up and down tree trunks, searching for insects hidden in the bark’s crevices.
